Diploma in Meal – Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning
Course Overview
Now more than ever, funding organizations seek more accountability for the funds they provide to development projects. Development organizations understand they are more likely to receive future funding if they can deliver and show results. That’s why employees who have specialized Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) skills are in demand. This specialized knowledge helps to assess a project’s performance and its lasting impact. Without an effective MEAL system we would be unable to track progress, make adjustments, discover unplanned effects of programs, or judge the impact that we have made on the lives of those with whom we are working. A MEAL system also helps individuals and teams to be accountable to stakeholders through information sharing and developing a complaints or feedback mechanism which can help to guide programed implementation.

Module 1: Introduction to M&E Principles and Concepts
- Understand M&E basic principles
- Apply the principles of results-based management
- Use practical considerations and key steps in developing M&E systems
Module 2: Analyzing and reporting data for decision making
- Developing a data analysis strategy
- Selecting data analysis methods
- Presenting analyzed data
- Common pitfalls/errors in analyzing data
Module 3: Accountability and Learning
- Meaning of accountability
- Importance of Accountability Information sharing Handling Complains Learning and its role in project execution
- Incorporating Accountability and Learning in Projects
Module 4: Project Reporting Through MEAL
- Use of MEAL data in Reporting Communication activities to partners and stakeholders
- Lessons learned Decisions making Recap
There are four assignments (continuous assessment tests), a research paper and one examination to be offered at the end of the course. Assignments account for 40%, research paper accounts for 30% while Examination accounts for 30% of the mark. Upon completion of the course, you shall be issued a Diploma Certificate and a course transcript.
Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Diploma Certificate of Merit and a transcript.
