Course Overview
In an era of demanding stakeholders’ expectations regarding financial probity, budgetary transparency and the proven impact value of funded work programs, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) remains one of those aspects of organizational management that is extensively discussed but rarely practiced. Monitoring and evaluation are used to measure, capture, and provide accurate information to make evidence-based, strategic decisions that can affect funding, resource allocation, program management, and/or policy formulation. This sought-after skill set can be applied to a broad range of businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies.
The Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation will provide a strong foundation in program design and implementation. As a student in this program, you will explore a variety of tools and techniques used to measure project progress and report outcomes to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders—including donors, funders, supervisors, or the population being served. You will design relevant and effective frameworks and learn the required methods to conduct data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting.

Module 1: Introduction to M&E Principles and Concepts
- Understand M&E basic principles
- Apply the principles of results-based management
- Use practical considerations and key steps in developing M&E systems
- Monitoring and Evaluation Planning, Design and Implementation
Module 2: Designing program monitoring systems
- Deciding on key aspects of the program to monitor
- Identifying data sources
- Designing sound data collection and collation tools
- Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for managing data
- Project Monitoring
- Project Evaluation
Module 3: Analyzing and reporting data for decision making
- Developing a data analysis strategy
- Selecting data analysis methods
- Presenting analyzed data
- Common pitfalls/errors in analyzing data
There are three assignments (continuous assessment tests) and one examination to be offered at the end of the course. Assignments account for 70%, while Examination accounts for 30% of the mark. Upon completion of the course, you shall be issued with a Certificate and a course transcript.
Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Certificate of Merit and a transcript.
