Course Overview
Poverty and the deterioration of the natural environment are the two most pressing problems facing humanity today. In order to meet development needs and eradicate poverty, it is vital to utilize natural resources in a sustainable manner while minimizing their depletion and pollution. Some 1.3 billion people worldwide live on less than US$1 per day, while 80 per cent of the world’s resources are consumed by 20 per cent of the world’s population. If everyone were to live like those 20 per cent, we would need four planets to provide all the resources necessary.
